Commonly Prescribed Weight Loss Medications

Orlistat
A gastrointestinal and pancreatic lipase inhibitor that prevents your body from absorbing fat from meals.
Phentermine
A central nervous system stimulant that suppresses appetite. Ideal for patients with a BMI ≥30, or ≥27 with conditions like diabetes, high cholesterol, or hypertension.
Phendimetrazine
Another appetite suppressant used to aid weight loss alongside healthy eating and exercise.
GLP-1 Agonists
Originally developed to treat diabetes, these medications have shown excellent results in weight loss for patients with or without diabetes.
Liraglutide (Saxenda)
  • For adults with BMI ≥30, or ≥27 with a weight-related condition
  • Administered as a daily injection
Semaglutide (Ozempic, Wegovy)
  • Weekly subcutaneous injection
  • For adults and adolescents (12+) with BMI ≥30, or ≥27 with conditions like hypertension or Type 2 diabetes
Tirzepatide (Mounjaro, Zepbound)
  • A dual GIP and GLP-1 receptor agonist
  • For BMI ≥30 or ≥27 with at least one comorbid condition (e.g., HTN, HLD, Type 2 diabetes, OSA, cardiovascular disease)
Contrave
  • A combination of bupropion and naltrexone
